You Are Near

Jump to Comments

I was(/am) a bad girl. I hadn’t been to mass in 3 weeks!!!!! (!!!!) The first time I forgot. The second I was terribly ill. The third I was in Prague. (we did go into a church to pray for awhile…but it was so cold…and echoey) But I went for mass today and it’s made me happy. heehee. I coughed a lot but still attempted to sing seconds. I miss singing in the family choir. :( Oh well. We sang one of my favourite hymns today…thought I’d post it here, the lyrics are so meaningful.

You Are Near

Yahweh, I know you are near,
standing always at my side.
You guard me from the foe,
and you lead me in ways everlasting.

Lord, you have searched my heart,
and you know when I sit and when I stand.
Your hand is upon me protecting me from death,
keeping me from harm.

Where can I run from Your love?
If I climb to the heavens You are there;
If I fly to the sunrise or sail beyond the sea,
still I’d find You there.

You know my heart and its ways,
you who formed me before I was born
in the secret of darkness before I saw the sun
in my mother’s womb.

Marvelous to me are Your works;
how profound are Your thoughts, my Lord.
Even if I could count them, they number as the stars,
You would still be there.

  • Well, I’ve personally never subscribed to the equation that going church equals to good/bad. My common used analogy: going to a garage doesn’t make you a car.

    As St Paul writes to the Corinthians, “… you are yourselves our letter, written in your hearts, that anybody can see and read, and it is plain that you are a letter from Christ drawn up by us and written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on stone tablets but on the tablets of your living hearts.” Therefore what distinguishes Christians is not only what we do, being holy and good; rather, it’s how we acknowledge his presence, rejoice in his company and listen closely to the new truthful word that He teaches.

    Having said that I do believe in going to church every week. As food nourishes the body, the word of God and fellowship with his people nourishes the soul. It is a time when people come to worship and a chance to encounter God.
