To Santorini, to drink the sunset.
To Mykonos, vibrant with hedonism
To Agistri, pine-cloaked and peaceful
To Folegandros, to be amateur lovers, you and I.
After scouring People’s Park for cheap airfares to Athens with Charmaine and Mel (we found a good one!!! Or rather, Mel did =P ) and a yummy tim sum lunch at Da Dong aka Fatty Weng’s (yessss. I knew it was Fatty something.) I had a few hours to kill before Tim finished with school. So I spent them at Kino researching Greece. I found lots of great guides but one in particular stood out- Alastair Sawdry’s Special Places to Stay reminded me that while it’s a great idea that accomodation shouldn’t mean anything and you’re really going there to see the place, in actual fact, it does matter a great deal. When I think about some of the places Tim and I have been to, even gorgeous places like Venice are tainted with the recollection of the dodgy place we stayed in (not by choice!!!) which inevitably leaves a faint bitterish aftertaste at the back of your throat. So I’m playing it safe this time- I’m going to find places that are really nice- and this won’t be decided by how expensive or luxurious it is but how *special* it is. And this guide really helped a lot.
P.S: Ooh i forgot to write about my purchase of the day! This is really momentous because remember how I said I wouldn’t spend any money? Well…my beloved white heeled slippers broke- the brand is Brazilian Praia from NUM (this must say something about its quality)- so I limped all the way from Kino to the Heeren to get a new pair but they were out of stock so I settled on a pair of brown Dupe flipflops. I felt seriously good walking away…they were ultra comfortable…more comfortable even than Havianas. And the best part is that they are cheaper too (by about 10 bucks? that’s like 1/3 cheaper) as the hype which has pushed up the prices for Havs has not yet done the same with the newer brand. So all in all, I’m very satisfied with my first purchase of the year. I shall refrain from making further purchases unless absolutely necessary (like this one). Oh, you can get them from NUM too.
