New toilet reading!!!

Hahaha what an unglamourous pronouncement for so elegant a tome as Singapore’s very own L’Officiel. Yup, the Parisian fashion bible has finally come to our shores and by golly is she beautiful. I’d never even heard of the magazine (yes, so ignorant!) until yesterday when I was browsing at MPH to pass the time while waiting for the ballet to commence. Firstly, the cover was arresting- beautiful sex kitten blonde amidst fronds of lallang in BUNNY EARS and a Comme des Garcons white pantsuit with what looks like gloved hands on her bootylicious behind? I’m hooked. A debut issue? Curiouser and curiouser. I flipped through it and bought it immediately- it was the last one on the shelves anyway.

There’s so much to love about it. Firstly, delightfully articulate editorials with good meaty content that actually makes fashion seem like a matter of immense import (how do they manage it! I certainly could not think about origami folds of satin or a certain drape of silk for more than a minute at most). Secondly, breathtaking photography and photo styling- I especially loved the shoot titled “In Ter Val” which featured languid models lounging in the wings of a theatre stage, whimsical and beautifully detailed as anything Tim Walker (the famed, the genius) might have shot himself. The whole magazine is just so well styled- very European, spare, just drenched with good taste. The best part is that they don’t do that annoying thing that so many fash mags do, that is, cut off the darn editorial and then bury the last bit somewhere near the back. What’s up with that seriously? Anyway, just pick up a copy already! It is in my opinion, the best fashion magazine in Singapore- (emphasis on FASHION not consumerism) and worth every bit of the $7.90. The first time I can actually call a Singapore fashion magazine one of an international standard.

Ooh and the pretty vial of Vera Wang and Vera Wang for Men that comes free with it doesn’t hurt either!

(I made Tim try the latter and he likes it. Mmm it’s so smooth)
