A Million Singapore Dollars – Be a part of the dream

Hey Everyone! Tim and I have a new site up and running. Actually it’s been around for awhile but I didn’t publicise it coz it was kinda AHGRY. Hehee. But now it’s PRETTY thanks to Sandra who is a genius. =P Really.

Anyway, as for what it’s about, explanations can be found in the FAQ section. Briefly, it’s an site for advertising. The whole point is to create traffic on the site…so please please please please if you have a blog or a webpage give us a link, it’s on the “link us” section at the top. And do add yourself to the growing collage of our friends blogs at the free section at the bottom of the page.

Love you all! =)

Oh! I forgot to mention that there’s also a blog there which Tim and I share. Tim’s blogging again! =) So check back regularly! xxoo

I have absolutely no idea why this sudden chocolate craving have come over me. God knows I have access to chocolate, access that I’ve never really cared to exploit. Not really a chocolate person, more a sweets person. Then suddenly, I NEED CHOCOLATE! Why ah. I dunno. But I suddenly want the 40% choco chip cookies from the Shell station down the road and my caramel frapp with loads of whipped cream and oodles and oodles of caramel sauce. Actually if half the drink consisted of cream and caramel sauce I’d be ecstatic.

We had strawberries and sugar yesterday. I know it ought to be strawberries and cream but cream doesn’t really add much to it in my opinion. Sugar does!!!!! It makes it so candied and gooooood. LOVE. IT. I feel like a kid. You know, like a grinny kid with strawberry juice smeared wildly around my mouth. Strawberry lipstick. *muacks!*

I have just learnt something new!!!!!!!!!!
Yaya Papaya.
Do you know what that means? I didn’t until Tim the Knowledgable told me.
Tim the Knowledgable has been teaching me very knowledgable things lately!!!!
Like, he taught me how to de-shell a prawn with just a fork and knife. Seh, right? Then, he taught me how to use a lighter!
And then now this Yaya Papaya thing.
It means…*drumroll*…haolian! In a proud, swaggering way.
Which totally didn’t make sense to me at all…
I mean…Papayas very hao lian meh?
Then Tim said, “It just rhymes! Wah lao! It’s just a saying la!”
erm, okay.

Wheeeee! I like camomile teaaaaaa!

It seems like today has been a rather intellectual day. In addition to that astounding piece of archaic streetspeak. I learnt something else.

Qn: How do you tell if broccoli is cooked?
Ans: If it’s all pretty and green, then it’s cooked.

Consequence: Me (to Maria and Mei)- “Is it pretty? Is it pretty? Is it pretty????!!!!”

Other news from Hartley’s Level One Kitchen:

Me: OMG. My jeans are so tight!!!!! Urgh!
Mei: Aiyah. Then don’t wear la. Few hundred only. (!!!???!!! Some ppl have too much $$$)
Me: But….you know, the website said that they’ll stretch. Then they’ll be okay…but I have to wear it everyday or something.
Mei: Forget it lah!
Maria: (aside, to me) I support you.

haiyoh….that was the nicest thing anyone said to me that day…Maria supports me! So I’m going to continue my quest to make my skinny jeans wearable. heh.

(next day)

Me: Guess what? I think my jeans are stretching! I can finally put them on standing up and not like lying down in a pose like I’m about to give birth.

The quest continues.

You Are Near

I was(/am) a bad girl. I hadn’t been to mass in 3 weeks!!!!! (!!!!) The first time I forgot. The second I was terribly ill. The third I was in Prague. (we did go into a church to pray for awhile…but it was so cold…and echoey) But I went for mass today and it’s made me happy. heehee. I coughed a lot but still attempted to sing seconds. I miss singing in the family choir. 😦 Oh well. We sang one of my favourite hymns today…thought I’d post it here, the lyrics are so meaningful.

You Are Near

Yahweh, I know you are near,
standing always at my side.
You guard me from the foe,
and you lead me in ways everlasting.

Lord, you have searched my heart,
and you know when I sit and when I stand.
Your hand is upon me protecting me from death,
keeping me from harm.

Where can I run from Your love?
If I climb to the heavens You are there;
If I fly to the sunrise or sail beyond the sea,
still I’d find You there.

You know my heart and its ways,
you who formed me before I was born
in the secret of darkness before I saw the sun
in my mother’s womb.

Marvelous to me are Your works;
how profound are Your thoughts, my Lord.
Even if I could count them, they number as the stars,
You would still be there.

Tim has just informed me that I sound too harsh in the previous post about how I think the Catholic Church is the true church. So, in the spirit of ecumenism I apologise. He recommends I say something “softer” like “it is my belief that the Catholic Church has the most legitimate claim to that title” or something like that.

I hope when you read what I say you understand that I’m not trying to offend anyone. I’m merely stating what it is I believe. If you don’t agree, fair enough. Everyone is at least entitled to an opinion. I should also state that I have much respect for mainstream Protestantism especially because many of those I know have a zeal for God which is very heartening to me, when it is expressed correctly of course. It can also come across very offensive, that is true.

Much of what the Catholic Church has done in the past (the bad things) are very incriminating and reflect very badly on it, and although I wish it weren’t so, they are part of history and cannot be divorced from the Church herself. I don’t see any point in denying those points of history happened. They did, we should learn from them and look to the future instead. Being here in Europe, in the very cradle of Christianity (well after Israel that is) is a very strange experience. Europe has everything, and yet it has nothing. It has the most amazing, beautiful, unusual, breath-taking, grand churches everywhere. Fascinating religious artefacts…it even has the pope for crying out loud. Yet, because Christianity is so suffused into the culture here, law, inter alia, I feel it is often taken for granted. Abused even. Singapore’s “version” of Christianity or Catholicism specifically is a much “purer” form I would say, because missionaries usually bring with them that zeal that more established religious communities no longer ascribe to. Having said that, it shouldn’t be said that Christianity is dead here either. The chaplaincy which I attend is very lively and committed, so is the Christian Union here, my friends tell me. Perhaps there is a revival here in the UK. I hope so.

*that* video

You know the whole “Tammy NYP” fiasco. (I’m quite fascinated by the way it’s almost a brand “Tammy NYP” haha) It actually makes me a little sad. Sex is supposed to be intimate thing. An act of love between two people. Videos like that, whether they are meant to be circulated or not, truly cheapens it. I just think it’s so private and when it’s violated…it just becomes so ugly. And I hope it wakes Singapore up to the loop in the law as it is, with regards to privacy law. The internet screws a lot of things up doesn’t it?

In other news, came across this site from mrbrown’s blog, maintained by an ex-Mormon:

Interesting stuff. It’s pretty balanced and neutral and all that. But! Some of the allegations are so out of this world you just wanna take a hypothetical mormon and shake em’ by the shoulders and go like, WAKE UP YOUR IDEA YOU HYPOTHETICAL PERSON! But then again, when you think about it, all religions could probably be seen as just as outrageous as the next. It’s just about how established the religion is. Who knows, if the world doesn’t end anytime soon, Mormonism could be the next big world religion. Though Islam is still the fastest spreading world religion around.

There’s a parody of religion here.

I believe it’s about Christian groups jostling for the title of the “True Church of God”. Although I believe firmly that only Catholicism is entitled to that claim, both historically and divinely, it’s still a site worth taking a look at. It parodies Mormonism especially. I honestly don’t know whether to laugh or feel angry at it. Oh, and it mentions something about “Tammy NYP”! Believe it or not. Singapore’s on the map once again, we seem to be famous for sex scandals, first Annabelle Chong and now Tammy. People are now shaking their heads and going….wow, Singapore is screwed up man. When actually, every country has their share of idiosyncracies, Singapore’s just more touche about it I suppose, and is still rather unwilling to accept the fact that its citizens have sex. Haha. Accept it and move on. But I can’t help feeling that it leaves such an unpleasant taste in my mouth.
