Revenge of the Killer Auntie!!!

I unashamedly brandish my umbrella at the despised sun.
I paint my nails a vampy red.
Big Apple Red.
Oooh yeah baby, bite me.

All things bright and beautiful

Last night something out of the ordinary happened. I still feel as if it weren’t true, that I was simply imagining things on that splintering wooden bench as I tried in vain to read my notes. It was after evening mass, the church quiet and peaceful, and austerity had crept watchfully into the shadows. Then a man and a woman came to sit a few pews in front of me. He started praying over her in a language that I did not recognize. At times, he cast his gaze in my direction as if to see if I were watching, so I willed myself not to look. Perhaps he decided that my mere presence was unacceptable, for he led her away into the confessionals, some distance from me. I tried to study again, but I heard curious phrases being half-shouted in the confessionals, “Be gone from her and never return, be gone! Be gone!” An exorcism? I was uncomfortable and immediately prepared to leave. Just as I was getting up to go, a woman emerged from behind me; her hair was wild and her eyes even more so. “Is it a sin to laugh at the host?” she demanded. I was horrified, my mind rife with crazy possibilities- was this the possessed woman? “It wasn’t that I was being disrespectful but my spectacles were loose and fell to the ground as I was bowing and I had to laugh at the sadness of my entire situation.” It was obvious that she did not intend for any response on my part for she continued her rant quite unaffected by the look of shock that I knew my features now assumed. She hurled her sorrows at me, yes, hurled. She flung her arms about and wrung her hands and shouted till drool leaked down her chin. I can’t really recount word for word what she said to me but suffice to say that here was a member of the piteously downtrodden who was pouring out her woes to me, a stranger, because there seemed to her to no one left that she could turn to. Was she mad? Yes, verging on it, but to my mind it was not a madness that was birthed but one which had emerged, sanity gnawed away till only its core was left exposed, wet and rotten. Social acceptance was what she lacked, perhaps due in part to her poor communicative skills- her manner was abrasive and careless- I told her so, and she said she knew. Social acceptance is not to be belittled, I thought. A toilet cleaner, a masseuse, a prostitute, a criminal- all these are people too she said, I am a person too! We are all deserving of respect no matter our station in life! We have souls! Now I need to take my pills, she said, giggling, they make me feel better. Everyone thinks I’m crazy, a xiao za bor. Of course! They drive me crazy! I do something like laugh at the host and everyone thinks I’m crazy- why can’t they just ask me why! This is why! I am sad! This is my sadness!

I talked to her until Jo came and rescued me. I wanted to cry, at what I don’t know. At the injustice, for her plight, because my facade of made believe strength was now crumbling from exhaustion. My fear.

And then we had choir practice and the night closed again, as it always has and always will. For me and for her, but so differently.

Names

Gianna. Is that a nice name? She’s a saint…a very ordinary yet extraordinary one. I kinda like the name.

You know the trend now is to call bakeries/boutiques with these one word names: Toast, Loaf, Baguette, Pluck, Strip, Blush, etc.

Maybe I’d call my boutique “Fetish”. How about it? *grin*

Or if it were a longer name…”By Any Other Name” or “A Book By Its Cover” I like those.

I had plums and persimons the other day. Plums and Persimons. Sounds nice doesn’t it?

Birthday Dog

Barry turns 9 today, or the ripe old age of 63 dog years if you will! Mummy got him a blueberry chiffon cream layer cake from our favourite neighbourhood bakery- Dino’s- Absolutely no chocolate for dogs! They get sooo sick.

We sang to him and he blew out the candles all by himself…with a regal and powerful wave of his great shaggy tail. Wuff you doggaloos!

Judging

Don’t judge, so that you won’t be judged.
For with whatever judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with whatever measure you measure, it will be measured to you.
Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but don’t consider the beam that is in your own eye?
Or how will you tell your brother,’Let me remove the speck from your eye;’ and behold, the beam is in your own eye?

You hypocrite! First remove the beam out of your own eye, and then you can see clearly to remove the speck out of your brother’s eye.

Matthew 7:1-5

I always wonder why others are so quick to judge when they are in no standing to do so- none of us are really. I admit it is impossible not to be judgmental at all, but sometimes when your rulings, whether fair or not, cause hurt to people maybe it’s time to rethink them. Especially when they are groundless.

Do you know how much hurt you can cause by judgment? Is the hurt you cause meant to be vengeful? Do you believe in hurting others, measure for measure? Perhaps the hurt you feel is not even justified, and the judgment you bequeath, even less so.
